As our pets get older things, their lifestyle and needs change. They
become more prone to certain diseases and their dietary needs change
No longer can their bodies cope with higher levels of dietary protein
or fat as they start to slow down and become saggy in places.
In order to make sure that your pet is prepared to cope with the changes
that occur as they get older and to help them maintain a good quality
of life, we now undertake a senior health examination called "Fit
for Life". This examination is performed by both vets and veterinary
nurses. We have two levels of examination in the "Fit for Life"
program; Silver and Gold. The major difference between the two is the
added blood tests that are performed in the Gold examination. We generally
perform the examinations in dogs older than 7 years of age, and cats older
than 10 years.
During the examination your pet will receive:
- a full health check
- blood pressure measurement
- urine analysis
- dietary advice
- advice on weight control and exercise
- blood tests for diseases including kidney disease, diabetes, liver
disease and hyperthyroidism (with the Gold examination)
The examination takes approximately 30 minutes and gives you a chance
to ensure that your pet is healthy and ready for the rest of their life
!
If you have any further questions or would like to book a Fit for Life
examination, please telephone the surgery on (0114) 250 7733.
