{"id":1244,"date":"2024-01-29T14:51:24","date_gmt":"2024-01-29T14:51:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.peakvets.co.uk\/news\/?p=1244"},"modified":"2025-12-04T20:54:20","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T20:54:20","slug":"peak-vets-has-been-accredited-as-a-dog-friendly-clinic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.peakvets.co.uk\/news\/peak-vets-has-been-accredited-as-a-dog-friendly-clinic\/","title":{"rendered":"Peak Vets has been accredited as a Dog Friendly Clinic!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Our veterinary practice in Sheffield has been honoured with a prestigious award for our high quality of care for dogs. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1241 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.peakvets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/dog-friendly-vets-in-sheffield.webp\" alt=\"dog friendly vets in Sheffield\" width=\"318\" height=\"424\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.peakvets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/dog-friendly-vets-in-sheffield.webp 400w, https:\/\/www.peakvets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/dog-friendly-vets-in-sheffield-225x300.webp 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Peak Vets has received Dog Friendly Clinic accreditation from Dogs Trust, the UK\u2019s largest dog welfare charity, and the British Veterinary Behaviour Association (BVBA). <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ashleigh Kubie, registered veterinary nurse (RVN) at Peak Vets, speaking on behalf of the team at Peak Vets, said: \u201cIt\u2019s fantastic that Peak Vets has been recognised by the Dogs Trust as a dog-friendly practice.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cIt\u2019s been a real team effort, not least thanks to former colleague Sarah Thynne, to create a canine environment that benefits our patients, our clients and our team.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Specific measures taken at Peak Vets include the introduction of non-slip mats so that dogs can be examined on the floor, along with dog-friendly treats, including liver paste, to be given as a reward.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">There are now separate areas for dogs and cats waiting in reception to help keep both canines and felines calm when visiting the practice.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ashleigh added: \u201cWe wanted Peak Vets to become a dog-friendly practice as I have a dog that is dog-reactive and has needed to wear a muzzle. He isn\u2019t a bad dog and I wanted to be an advocate for dogs that are misunderstood.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cWe wanted people to understand that a dog wearing a muzzle can be for many reasons and that they shouldn\u2019t be treated with less respect.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dr Rachel Casey, Director of Strategy and Transformation at Dogs Trust, said: \u201cVeterinary care is an essential part of dogs\u2019 lives, but some find visits to the vets stressful.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe are very pleased to collaborate with the BVBA to create the Dog Friendly Clinic scheme to help veterinary practices embed the principles of behavioural medicine into clinic life.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cVet clinics are at the forefront of recognising and preventing the development of problem behaviours in dogs, and this scheme will help them develop the skills and knowledge to optimise the wellbeing of the dogs in their care.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Chris Laurence, chair of BVBA, said: \u201cEncouraging welfare-friendly treatment of dogs in veterinary practices is one of our primary objectives so every additional practice means many more dogs will benefit.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe\u2019re delighted Peak Vets has joined our dog friendly community.
