  • Microchipping Your Cat | Peak Vets

Microchipping is a permanent ID system, involving a chip, no bigger than a grain of rice being implanted under the skin of your pet’s scruff.

Microchipping your pets

Microchipping is not only for cats, but also dogs and many more animals. Pet microchipping comes highly recommended from us here at Peak Vets. It is also now a legal requirement for all dogs to be microchipped. You can be fined up to £500 if your dog is not microchipped. It is also worth noting if, that if you are planning on taking your pet abroad, they must be microchipped and have an Animal Health Certificate.

Microchipping for cats

Sedation is not necessary for the implantation of the microchip; the procedure will cause minimal discomfort to your cat and can be carried out in a routine consultation. If you don’t know or aren’t sure if your cat has already been microchipped, we can check for you are using a scanner. We would always check to see if your cat has a microchip before we implant another.

At the time of implant

At the time of implant, you will be asked to complete a registration form, from which your details are then submitted to a national database by a Peak Vet’s team member. Your details will then be kept on a pets database for the lifetime of your pet and the fee for this is included in the cost of the implantation.

Changes of details

It is important to update any changes to your contact details as soon as possible. At Peak Vets, all our microchips comply with the international standard (ISO) and can be recognised by scanners even when abroad when used in the Animal Health Certificate scheme.
